Not all healthy banana smoothies are made the same, so consumer beware of the ingredients you choose to pack inside each drink today!
The latest craze that people are jumping on the band wagon about is eating healthy and getting fit or staying fit. While one would think drinking a smoothie of any caliber would be great for the body, you really have to analyze what ingredients you are putting in each drink. It's much easier to manage this if you're the one making the drink, but if you visit snack bars, gyms or coffee shops you may just be getting more than you think!
For instance, if you use whole milk with your smoothies you can expect about 150 calories to be added to each serving. Using two percent milk, which is a little bit of reduced fat, you are looking at about 120 calories per serving. Reaching for the Skim milk will net you about 95 calories per serving, and if you use the plain Soy milk or the vanilla Soy milk you're looking at about 100 calories per serving.
You may be one of many who prefer using Orange juice with your healthy banana smoothie, if this is the case you can expect to add about 110 calories to your drink per serving.
If you use any other type of fruit juice, on average you're looking at about 140 calories per serving.
If we take a look at other items people may add to their healthy banana smoothie you could possibly find peanut butter, frozen fruit, frozen yogurt, ice cream, sorbet, honey or the plain protein powder. You're looking at adding anywhere from 50-60 calories upwards to between 150-160 calories for each of these items you add to the mixture.
So as you can easily see, what you once thought may have been a very healthy drink for your body can easily start racking up the calories and working against you unless you're hitting the gym or doing some other form of exercise which will help burn off all the calories you consume per each drink.
There are benefits to adding different ingredients to the drinks you make, but with all the scientific data available and the research that has been done you pretty much have to look at all the information you have available and determine what your end result goal is going to be.
Just because something sounds pretty healthy doesn't really mean it is, as trade and commerce move forward there will be more and more regulations to require disclosures of nutrition on all the different types of foods people consume today.
Consult your local health experts before making any changes to your diet or exercise plans.
